Apprenticeships

If you are aged between 16-24 and interested in combining work with study, an Apprenticeship may be ideal for you. Apprenticeships allow you to earn as you learn and gain skills, experience and qualifications while in employment.

You will spend the majority of your time learning on the job, but you will also spend time at College studying for your NVQ (National Vocational Qualification). The amount of time in College varies depending on your Apprenticeship. You will have the support of an assessor/co-ordinator throughout your course, who will also monitor your progress at regular intervals.

We offer two types of Apprenticeship:

  • Apprenticeship: You will gain an NVQ Level 2 qualification providing you with the skills needed for your chosen career, and also entry to the Advanced Apprenticeship.
  • Advanced Apprenticeship: You will gain an NVQ Level 3 qualification, equivalent to A-Levels.

We currently offer Apprenticeships in:

  • Bricklaying and Trowel Trades
  • Business Administration
  • Customer Service
  • Catering and Hospitality
  • Carpentry and Wood Occupations
  • Hairdressing
  • Plumbing
  • Team Leading
  • Management

You will need to find suitable employment, which the College can help you with, and you'll be paid a wage or training allowance by your employer.

How do I apply?

Fill in an application form, indicating which area you are interested in, and send it to the admissions office at RFDC. Download an application form here

What happens next?

A Training co-ordinator will contact you to discuss your options and invite you to attend assessment/induction days. Once a suitable work placement has been found and all the paperwork is in place, your apprenticeship will start.

What if I can't find a suitable work placement?

We will offer you an alternative full time course dependant on your GCSE results. We would always recommend that you keep your options open until everything is in place, this could mean attending taster days and summer school until you know for sure which route you are taking.
