Course details

This programme will allow you to negotiate and agree an individual learning programme based on a range of credits or units offered by us. This one year, pre-entry/Level 1 course will serve as a useful introduction, allowing you to pick and mix from a range of topics to develop your interests, and explore the opportunities available for further training or work.

What will I study?

The programme will continue to develop so additional skill opportunities may be available in September 2010.

  • Information Technology

This will allow you to develop your ability in ICT and explore digital artwork, image manipulation, web design and use of specialist technology and software.

  • Arts and Cookery

The opportunity to look at the creative and catering industries. Experiment with art, photography, cookery and working in the kitchen.

  • Construction or Hairdressing

The choice is yours. This will provide you with a sound stepping stone into your chosen sector. Construction will allow you to try out plumbing, bricklaying and carpentry. Hairdressing will give you the opportunity to wash and style.

  • Placements, employer engagement and work related learning

The opportunity to gain work experience, with input from industry links and master classes.

  • Personal and Social Skills

Topics include: Money management, alcohol abuse, drugs awareness, citizenship, team building and a chance to join in sports sessions such as netball and football.

  • Functional Skills

English, Mathematics and Information Technology.

Additional notes

Built in to your timetable will be at least two hours study support time and a weekly tutorial.

Entry requirements

You will need a selection interview, no formal qualifications are needed to join this course.

What will this course lead to?

On successful completion, the course allows you to progress in to a specialist course at the next suitable level.
